Culture

Eat
Traditional Czech dishes include wild boar, duck, carp or perch, red cabbage and dumplings – so make like the locals and sample them here in Prague. Drink
The words ‘Czech’ and ‘beer’ are almost synonymous. This is the birthplace of Pilsner and the original home of Budweiser, as well as a range of fine lagers with unpronounceable names. What is most apparent is that alcohol in Prague is remarkably cheap. At a local pub a half-litre of beer costs just 50p – a price you can’t argue with. Chateau is the American college hangout and a great place to meet people – if you can hear what they’re saying above the music. For a more sophisticated affair, head to St. Nicholas’ Café - a lovely place to chat and drink without having beer spilt down your shirt.

Party
Nightlife in Prague is fantastic fun – very safe and unthreatening. The majority of the most engaging spots are found in the city centre. De Minka Music Bar is the Czech club of the moment, packed nightly with an array of stunning girls and well-dressed men. Less posing goes on at Duplex, which looks likes something out of a Playboy video with industrial walkways and cages hanging over the dance floor. It is also conveniently located on Wenceslas Square.

In the last few years a number of chic designer hotels have opened up in the city, filling a gaping void in the market.
